Description: This is my personal camera. It's the original version of the Leica M6. Serial numbers indicate it was built Jan 17, 1994 as part of a group of 2000 cameras. I purchased the camera used about 15 years ago. About 10 years ago the frame counter was acting up so I sent it to Leica USA for service. At that time they fixed the problem and did a complete clean and adjustment. The camera has worked flawlessly since then. The camera comes with a body cap only. No box, no strap, no lens. This camera uses the Leica M-mount. You should google this camera to see if it's compatible with your lenses, and your plans. I'm doing the best to describe the item as accurately as possible. Camera Updates and Modifications - The camera has had the film wind lever up-dated from the original version with the plastic end to the all metal version used on the MP cameras. This was done at Leica by the previous owner. The winding lever is black paint over brass metal. The lever has "brassing" where the brass colour shows through the paint. I've tried to show it as best as I can in the photos. I'm pointing this out because this modification is not the standard wind lever that comes with the camera originally. Is an all-metal brass winder an up-grade from the original? I'm not sure, you'll have to decide but it works great, and has the brassing as I mentioned. Camera Body - This is what the industry calls the "Black Chrome" camera. It's the basic M6 black body except for the film winder mentioned above. The M6 is made of zinc. It will not brass like the old cameras did, such as the M4... just so you know, the black chrome doesn't brass. The black finish has dulled slightly over the years but has very few scratches and marks on it. Not as shinny as a new one, but no huge marks. The bottom plate of the camera still has the plastic film on it even though the camera is from 1994. I just never peeled it off, so the bottom plate is like new.The vulcanite, (the material that people think is leather but Leica hasn't used leather on standard cameras for decades) is in very nice shape. No peeling off on the corners, no heavy wear marks, even the vulcanite on the battery cover is in great shape and not peeling. There is no Zinc rot on the camera body. Zinc rot is the bubbles or blisters that show up on some M6 cameras. You should google it if you don't know what I mean. Anyway there is none on this camera body. Viewfinder - The viewfinder is the 72 viewfinder which is standard on the M6, M7, MP cameras. It shows the framelines for six lenses. These framelines show up in pairs when you mount the lens. 50mm and 75mm, 28mm and 90mm, 35mm and 135mm. The viewfinder and rangefinder patch are both clear without any haze that I can see. Neither have scratches that would inhibit the use. Rewind Crank - This camera has the standard rewind crank. It works perfectly and doesn't appear to have any bends in the shaft that goes back into the film cassette. If there was a bend, there would be issues rewinding the film, but this one has no bend and works perfectly. The "R" lever (used to release the gearing so you can rewind the film) works great. There is a slight amount of brassing on the "R" lever but it's hard to see unless the light catches it just right. You can see the R lever closeup in the photos. Light Meter - Both arrows are bright and clear and the meter works properly as it should. The RED dot - Yes it's there in all it's glory. The Leica Red dot is front and centre. Shutter Speed Dial - This is the standard non-TTL dial that came with the camera when new. Slight wear on this dial but works fine and the camera works at all shutter speeds.
