Orig Issue Victor Batwing 12" 78 rpm CONDITION: EXCELLENT PRISTINE, plays E+ EXCEPTIONALLY quiet amazing soundA SUPERB COPYThe first album that the Victor intended for Guatemala is a recording of the Víctor Orchestra performing the National Anthem of Guatemala (by Rafael Álvarez) and La flor del camote by Máximo T. de la Rosa (65192). In 1915, during a tour, the Hurtado brothers' relationship with this record company began, with which they recorded, throughout their career, some 30 selections from their repertoire. The label also includes titles by Guatemalan authors that are popular in the United States, such as the foxes Some Sunday Morning, Indianola by Henry-Onivas (72069), Melody Rag by Deiro and The Ghost of the Saxofone (72066), the American folk song My Sweetie (72067) and the popular tune There is a Long, Long Trail (by Elliot), which has the Missouri waltz (by Logan-Eppel) recorded on the reverse (72086). The audience in that country must have been amazed to hear a rag time on marimba that caused so much euphoria. Hurtado Brothers Royal Marimba Band Nombre real: La Marimba Royal De Los Hermanos Hurtado Perfil: Marimba band from Guatemala. Originally formed by Sebastián Hurtado (1827-1913) from Quetzaltenango, the inventor of the double-keyed or chromatic marimba, together with his sons, the orchestra toured the United States in 1908 and Europe in 1910. After the death of Sebastián and one of his sons, Celso Hurtado took over the ensemble and renamed it La Marimba Royal De Los Hermanos Hurtado; this was the ensemble that was invited to represent Guatemala at the 1915 International Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco. The band was an immediate hit, awarded the exhition's Gold Medal and a contract with Columbia that resulted in a series of recordings that year. Between 1916-1923, they also made numerous recordings for Victor. Their 1916 recording of "Pique Dame" on Victor sold 500,000 copies within a few weeks. After several additional tours of the United States, including a performance with the "Ziegfeld Follies" in 1919, the Hurtado Brothers (Joaquín, Celso, Jesús, and Óscar) settled permanently in New York in 1925. As interest in the band decreased in the late 1920s, Jesús left the ensemble, but it continued to perform at hotels in New York and Canada and record with Banner throughout the 1930s. In 1938, when the band was contracted to perform at the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition on San Francisco's Treasure Island, Jesús rejoined his brothers, and they recorded and released albums with Columbia (1941) and Black & White (1946). Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
