Description: DETAILS: Original pinback button issued by the Agriculture Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) under the leadership of Larry Itliong, announcing the Fillipino-American union strike against the Delano Grape Growers. Circa 1965. Because the AWOC was overwhelmingly comprised of Filipino migrant workers under the Temporary Foreign Workers program, members were wary to join any form of civil disobedience lest they be deported. However by 1965 the plight of the Filipino farmworkers had become so impoverished that they voted overwhelmingly to join the Delano strike. On September 8, 1965, Itliong led over 800 of the Filipino AWOC members on a walkout and strike at ten grape vineyards around Delano. Measures 1 3/4" inches.
