Description: An 8 inch (7 7/8") tall deep COBALT BLUE color unusual triangular shaped antique POISON bottle from the OWL DRUG Co which started in San Francisco in the late 1800's. This is a LARGE 16 ounce PINT sized bottle. This bottle is embossed on all three sides. It is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating well over 100 years old. Bottle embossed: "The Owl Drug Co" on one side, "POISON" on another side and on the third size it has an embossed picture of an off-centered one-wing owl perched on a druggists' mortar, stirring a pestle. The mortar is embossed, "TODCo / TRADE MARK". TODCo. = The Owl Drug Co. Condition: This bottle is in shiny clean condition. It has some age wear but there is nothing specifically wrong with it. NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. PLEASE see pictures for idea of overall condition. These old hand blown glass (BIM) cobalt blue triangular shaped Owl Drug poison bottles come in 10 different sizes, from the smallest 2 3/4 inch tall 1/2 oz. size to the largest 9 3/4 inch tall full quart size. This one is the second largest size, an 8" tall 16 oz. size, the large pint. This bottle is listed as # KT-1 in the Poison Bottle Workshop book, the book on antique poison bottles. Though there are a few of these around, there weren't a lot of them made in the first place as the need for a pint of a poisonous substance wasn't that great and they were very susceptible to breakage in this odd triangular size as when they lay flat, the top edge was easily crushed. Antique poison bottles are quite collectible as they were most always made in odd shapes or forms, unusual colors, and had fancy or extraordinary embossing patterns on them. Though originally these were all things to let a user know, by sight and feel, that the bottle's contents were something not to be consumed, today these are all the things that makes poison bottles such a collectible category of antique bottle collecting, and this one in the deep COBALT BLUE color, the unusual TRIANGULAR shape, and with the word POISON spelled out in LARGE CAPITAL LETTERS, all make for an outstanding example of all of this.
