Description: Antique framed oil painting on canvas of unknown man from Civil War era. This painting has been in my family for quite some time, purchased from a warehouse in Salt Lake City, Utah where it sat for decades. It was speculated that this painting has Mormon historical significance and ties to the Joseph Smith family, but that cannot be determined. It is an otherwise nice portrait of a man from the mid to late 1800s (1860-1890). It’s got a few issues, as you can see in the photos; a few dents, punctures, and some cracking. It’s in fantastic condition for its age, but could use a professional restoration. The frame, as far as we can tell is the original frame from the time period. Unknown artist. This is a very large painting, the canvas being roughly 30”x24.5”. Portraits this size from the 1800s can go for several thousands of dollars. Price is based on present condition and unknown variables. Will be packed very well and shipped with insurance.
