Description: Condition Continued: Leafing through all five volumes I saw only one tear (on the front flyleaf of Volume II) and no losses. And there isn't much in the way of corner creases. There may be a few other tears (we're talking about some 4000 pages, give or take), but from what I did see, tears and loss don't seem to be an issue. Those are the positives. On the less positive side, all of the volumes have some degree of spotting/foxing. Here it gets tricky because one person's definition of 'light' or 'moderate' or 'heavy' may easily vary from another's. So, for what it's worth, I would say that it ranges, in the main, from light to moderate. There are occasional pages I would describe as having 'heavy' foxing. There are many more that I would describe as having none and close to none. (If you are concerned about foxing then send me a note asking to see more examples of how the pages look). Another page flaw is evident in three of the volumes, and that is light water staining. In two the volumes it is restricted to the margin when it is present. In the other volume the edge of it can be seen in the middle of the pages, again where it is present. That too might be something you might want to ask for a few photos of. The only other page issue is, in my opinion, quite minor. I very occasionally, maybe overall one out of every 50 pages (a guess), ran into an underlined word (always in pencil) and usually a written word or a few words to the right on the margin relating to the underline. In one such instance the one penciling wrote 'Wrong' and a few other words, so he or she may have known their business when it came to Dante. I call it minor because this was not a person who was prone to making notes. In one instance I turned over 100 pages and found one page with one underlined word. In another instance I turned over 60 pages and found two instances of underlining with a word. I just now decided to randomly check another one hundred pages and this time I didn't run into one instance of penciling. But I still feel that the average might be a couple every hundred pages. No one has written their name anywhere in the volumes. There aren't any markings. No attachments. Nothing removed. Never library books. The previous owner did write penciled numbers on the rear inside cover of three of the five volumes. Stuff like VII-87 and XV-19, XXX-5. I checked to see whether there was writing on the referenced pages but there wasn't. That may tell most of the story with regard to condition. I want to do as much as I can to ensure that the buyer gets what he expects. La Divina Commedia Di Dante Alighieri (1830, 5 Volumes Complete), Volume IV: Prose Di Dante Alighieri Precedute dal rimario e dall'indice delle voci e nomi proprj della divina commedia, and Volume V: Rime Profane Sacre Di Dante Alighieri Precedute dalla sua biografia Per Leonardo Ciardetti, Firenze, 1830. Col Comento Del P. Baldassare Lombardi. I'm offering this set at a very steep discount to the very few others ($750-1200) for sale on the Internet. It's a five of volume set. On the last page of the fifth volume it states 'Fine Del Quinto Ed Ultimo Volume' (end of the fifth and final volume).
