Description: Gertrud Kudielka Description: A fine and rare mounted rider sculpture by the great Gertrud Kudielka (1896-1984) for L. Hjorth, Denmark. Kudielka was born in Slovakia and trained as a sculptor in Prague and Berlin. She worked for L. Hjorth from 1930-1939 and again from 1949-1964. This sculpture is from her second stint at L. Hjorth. It is a large, beautifully modeled piece with a lot of detail and expressiveness in both horse and rider. The glaze is a luscious mottled surface in blue, brown, and cream. It is signed on the base L. Hjorth Denmark with Kudielka's artist cipher . It's a fine piece of mid-century Scandinavian art pottery and would be a highlight in any collectionCondition: The condition is in excellent vintage.
