Description: EXTREMELY RARE FIND Established 1901 as the Philadelphia Athletics the team moved to Kansas City in 1955 where they played until 1967 before moving to Oakland. The team never won a World Series Title or a League Pennant. The owner kept the same color scheme of the Philadelphia club of Red, White and Blue. FUN FACT: The reason behind the White Elephant: In 1902, John Graw a Player/Manger for the Orioles didn't like the fact that the Athletics owner Ben Shibe was giving outrageous contracts to players he stated "Shibe has a "White Elephant" on his hands, and the team was doomed to fail. A saying which meant having something nice but was to expensive to take care of. McGraw also presented Shibe with a small toy white elephant as a joke gift. Becsuse of this and the fact that the Athletics ballclub was very successful, a white elephant was stiched onto every uniform sleeve and incorporated into the cap logo. In 1955 the elephant from the Philadelphia club was reintroduced, by the owner, and perched on a Baseball. 100% COTTON with 1955-1967 LOGO "A Seemingly Happy Elephant Holding a Baseball Bat with Its Trunk, a Red Blanket with A's Logo, Standing on a Baseball with a Red Baseball Dismond Underneath". Back features cloth adjustable strap. BEAUTIFUL CONDITION A MUST HAVE FOR ANY BASEBALL FAN, COOPERSTOWN COLLECTOR OR ELEPHANT LOVER
