Description: This is the one you will be receiving. k71b box 22 #3 This is a beautiful Atlas Moth unmounted and the wings are not spread. There is no damage to the wings. Please google if you need to spread wings and there are videos to show you how to accomplish this. Please see last picture for approx. size of this specimen shown with a ruler. Species: Attacus atlas, the Atlas moth, is a large saturniid moth endemic to the forests of Asia. The species was described by Carl Linnaeus in his 1758 10th edition of Systema Naturae. The Atlas moth is one of the largest lepidopterans, with a wingspan measuring up to 24 cm (9.4 in) and a wing surface area of about 160 cm2 (≈25 in2).[2] It is only surpassed in wingspan by the white witch (Thysania agrippina) and Attacus caesar and in wing surface area by the Hercules moth (Coscinocera hercules). As in most silk moths, females are noticeably larger and heavier than males, while males have broader antennae ****Please note: It's normal for there to be some oil around the moth as they have very oily bodies and it does transfer onto the specimen paper around the moth. Unfortunately there is no way to guarantee antennae or legs in shipping. We do our best to get them to you safely by sending them in an extra strong literature boxes but they are just too delicate to guarantee. We have not had any damaged in these boxes but we feel it should be noted as there are no returns on these.
