Offered for sale is a copy of The Lord of the Rings, in its first edition--from George Allen & Unwin--comprising: The Fellowship of the Ring, the fourteenth impression (1965); The Two Towers, the eleventh impression (1965); and The Return of the King, the tenth impression (1963). All three volumes, which lack the jackets, are in good condition, free of underscores, annotations, &c. Each volume retains its foldout map, though the map accompanying The Two Towers is lightly stained. All three volumes bear stamps, from a previous owner, on the fore-edges; vol 2. has been stamped, by a second owner, on the endpapers. The cloth binding is in good condition--notwithstanding some wear at the heads and feet of the back-strips and a ding, affecting the front cover of vol. 3. The top edges were lightly spattered with water, and this has led to minor bleeding, into a few leaves, of the stain. All three volumes are mildly cocked but will stand true when shelved.
