JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVA anime cel douga original animation art drawing DIO

Description: Up for auction is a rare anime cel douga (aka pencil sketch) of Dio from the first Jojo's Bizarre Adventure OVA series. This drawing appears in the episode "DIO's World: Kakyoin - The Duel in the Web," which was originally released in 1994. Dio pursues Joseph through the streets of Cairo, leaving an incredible swath of death and destruction in his wake. Kakyoin comes to Joseph's aid, only to be crushed by the power of Dio's Stand The World. As Kakyoin lies alone and dying, he realizes in the last moments of life the true nature of Dio's Stand, and he attempts to send one final message to Joseph. Here, Dio is taking note of Kakyoin's actions while he fights with Joseph. This cel douga is labeled A-1 KEY, and has the bold lines you would expect from a key drawing. It measures 10.5 inches across and is 9.5 inches from top to bottom. The drawing has the standard wear and tear from being moved around the animation studio, and the paper has yellowed somewhat over the past 30 years. However, the image of Dio remains strong and vibrant, and the art almost pops off the page. I have a scan of the drawing, as well as some photos shown here. PLEASE NOTE: the photos are very DARK, and the actual art is much brighter in person, just like in the scan. Please look over the images carefully, and note the creases, small folds, bent corners, and tiny paint transfer stains. These issues are not at all unusual for older animation art pieces, but I always want to note them, just in case any new collectors might be unaware. Famed late anime director Satoshi Kon worked on this episode, and he is credited for the script and the storyboard. He would go on to direct Perfect Blue a few years later. Production art from the original JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVA is difficult to come by these days. Grab this piece while you can.
