Description: Offered here is " Japanese Paper Dolls " by Shigeo and Shizuko Suwa, originally published by Shufunotomo Co., Ltd. in 1976; this copy is a stated fourth printing, published in 1983. The text was translated into English from the original Japanese by Cheryl Ando. This book shows how to make traditional shimotsuke paper dolls. It has separate explanations for making the head, body, clothes, hairstyles, miniature items and hair ornaments. There are detailed sketches and photographs that show the points of the basic process necessary to make all kinds of dolls. This hardcover book and its original dust jacket are in Very Good condition. White boards with black lettering on the covers and spine. The lettering on the front and spine are in English. Presented on the back cover in Japanese lettering is Kannon - the Goddess of Mercy. The unclipped dust jacket shows some age-tanning, as do the top of the book's boards and the top of the book block. The binding is tight, and interior pages are clean. There are many detailed black and white illustrations and diagrams with accompanying instruction.
