Print Description description The Ten Lepers color_lens In 2017, The Greenwich Workshop celebrated 45 years in fine art publishing. To commemorate this milestone, they released a limited number of their most sought-after images as large format 45th Anniversary Giclée Canvas Personal Commissions. Personal Commission Editions were only available to order for a limited number of weeks, and were considered sold out at the end of the exclusive order period. James C. Christensen's first Personal Commission Anniversary Edition of a Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Museum Edition Giclée Canvas was The Ten Lepers. It was released as a 22" x 50" unstretched canvas. The edition size was determined by the number of orders received by January 20, 2017. It issued at $995.00, and a $200.00 deposit was required at the time of order. The edition size ended up being 522, and for a limited time included a complimentary 7.75" x 14" SmallWork Giclée Paper Print of the The Ten Lepers. This listing is for one of those rare complimentary paper prints which was printed on cotton paper, and was never shipped with the Anniversary Edition Canvas during that corridor of time. As a matter of fact, the only other paper edition ever produced of The Ten Lepers was a limited edition which was released in 2002 as a 15" x 34" lithograph, and currently retails for over $3,500.00. Interestingly enough, this image, albeit smaller, was produced via a superior giclée printing process when compared to its older lithograph counterpart since the giclée printing process didn't start up until about a year later in 2003. As he did with The Widow's Mite, James Christensen interprets one of the Bible's more powerful stories; and presents us with an image of elegance, grace, and beauty. Christensen was born in 1942 and raised in Culver City, California. He studied painting at Brigham Young University and at the University of California at Los Angeles for a while before finishing his formal education at BYU. Since then, he had one-man shows in the West and the Northeast, and his work became prized in collections throughout the U.S. and Europe. Having taught art professionally for over 20 years, Christensen liked to think of the world as his classroom. His hope was that through whatever he created – be it a porcelain, fine art print, or book – he could convey a message, inspiration, or a simple laugh. He believed that teaching people to use their imagination helped them find solutions to sooth the stresses of everyday life or get a little lift to help them keep going. In short, all things are possible when you share Christensen's philosophy that "Believing is Seeing." Inspired by the world's myths, fables, and tales of imagination, James Christensen wanted his work to add up to more than a beautiful – if sometimes 'curious' looking work of art. James Christensen was one of the few people fortunate enough to create a world of his own, and make you wish you could live in it. Christensen filled his "land a little left of reality" with wonderful people, places, and things as real as your adult dreams and as beloved as your fondest childhood memories. James was commissioned by both Time/Life Books and Omni to create illustrations for their publications and his work has appeared in the prestigious American Illustration Annual and Japan's Outstanding American Illustrators. Christensen also won all the professional art honors which the World Science Fiction Convention can bestow, as well as multiple Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists.
