It can also grow in greenhouses or large pots and harvested before a winter freeze. The best time to plant in USDA zones 8-11 is from October- March and that is usually our main season for Cane offerings.'Jamaican Red Stripe' its a type of ribbon cane. This is an old heirloom chewing cane. It is a red ribbon variegated stripe on a green or gold base. Iit is a softer cane that is easy to peel and chew.Our heirloom sugar cane is organically grown, and we send fresh cut pieces 6-8" long of ready for planting. *Planting Instructions*Bury the cutting about 3" below your soil if directly planting in the ground (zone 8 or warmer). Mulch and let the cutting root in. the cane will sprout and come up in the spring as it warms with a established root system.For starting the cane cutting in a pot: Bury the cutting about 2" below the soil laying on its side horizontally.
