JACK BENNY - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 01/12/1967 - HFSID 28243 JACK BENNY His signed, typed letter discloses that he has entered daughter Joan's name in a drawing. TLS: "Jack", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Beverly Hills, California, 1967 January 12. On sheet bearing his facsimile signature at upper margin to "Dear Adah". In full: "Thanks very much for your thoughtful gift. I put down my daughter's name for the drawing. All good wishes to you and Ted for the New Year and Mary and I wish you both health and happiness. Love". Ink note (unknown hand) beneath signature: "re - stubs upper part to Joan". Mary was Benny's wife, MARY LIVINGSTONE. The couple, who married in 1927, adopted a daughter, JOAN NAOMI, in 1934. In 1967, Benny would appear in one feature film, A Guide for the Married Man, and guest star on an episode of the TV series, The London Palladium Show. Vaudeville comedian Jack Benny (1894-1974), born Benjamin Kubelsky, hosted a popular radio show from 1933, moving The Jack Benny Program smoothly to TV (1950-1965). His comic image as a tone-deaf, penny-pinching bachelor contradicted the real Benny, a philanthropist, devoted husband and competent violinist. He appeared in over 25 movies, the most critically acclaimed being To Be Or Not To Be (1942). Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Fine condition.
