Patton. The first version used in Vietnam was the gasoline engined M48A2but was soon out numbered by the diesel powered M48A3 which became the most numerous UStank during the conflict. The M48A3s were conversions of earlier models so it wasn’t uncommonfor many characteristics to vary from tank to tank. Some M48A3s had 3 support rollers whileothers had 5 and the headlight assemblies could either be the early or later type.The M48A3 Patton arrived in Vietnam courtesy of the USMC in May 1965. From 1965 until 1970there were three Marine Corps tank battalions or three anti-tank battalions involved in Vietnam.There were 600 Pattons in action during the Vietnam War. The M48 could be equipped with aflame thrower, machine guns and cannons. The cannons could use canister rounds to fire like ashot gun sending 1,280 pellets or 10,000 darts in a wide pattern killing enemy troops or justblasting through heavy thickets.Die-cast metal construction with plastic components.Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
