Description: This is a brass 1 drachm apothecary weight token made by HenryTroemner prior to and through the American Civil War. The use of these was stopped when it was discovered that the crevices of the token harbored bacteria and other germs. They first appeared in England and were exported to America starting in the 1830s. Local manufactures (Mainly Troemner, Maris as well as like thea few others JLB, OSCO, NSW) quickly made their own versions. It's hard to find any in mint uncirculated condition, because they were used by pharmacists, apothecaries and also by individuals for home use. And, because the 1 drachm token is the same size as the US government Flying Eagle penny, they were also circulated like Civil War Tokens and used as change by merchants and their customers. Please check my other auctions for a large group of John Maris (New York and Philidelphia) 1 drachm tokens. The best condition tokens will ship first. And should you decide to purchase more than one of these, please wait to pay until I can get you a revised invoice showing a reduced combined shipping cost. Please check my feedback and bid with confidence. All my items are guaranteed to be as described and pictured. Should I make an error that we cannot resolve to your satisfaction, you will receive a full refund, including shipping cost both ways upon the return of the item. Thanks for looking!!! Jim
