Description: Here I have for sale a First American Edition of Henry Green's Loving, published in this hardcover with dust jacket by Viking in 1949. This story of love among the servants of a wealthy woman's castle in Ireland is the most wonderful take on love, beautiful, poetic, ironic. It recurred in my thoughts for a long time after finishing the first read. Green is that sublime under-noticed writer who other writers emulate. The book is VG with pea green board and darker green gilt. Heavy edge wear and foxing. Binding is tight and pages are clean and unmarked, though heavily foxed. Endpapers sun darkened. The dust jacket is VG with still bright colors and a wonderful illustration. Heavily chipped at top and bottom of spine and along edges and corners. Some creasing along edges. It is not price-clipped and is protected in mylar. Thanks and see my other listings: Modern Firsts, Modern Library, Everyman's Library and Oxford World's Classics.
