Description: Please Note: If you are interested in collecting Harmony Kingdom, Adam Binder Editions or Fragile World pieces, please select me as one of your favorite sellers on eBay, or contact me about a piece you are looking for, and I will be happy to list it, if I have it. I have a large selection of pieces in my eBay store, but due to the expense of listing them all at one time, I will be listing only a few auctions each week. I will try and list a variety of pieces each week and hopefully you will find items of interest to you. This Harmony Kingdom box figurine named "Earn Your Stripes V1" was carved by Peter Calvesbert in 2008. It was hand painted/finished by local craftsmen in the Cotswold area of England. Tapirs look something like pigs with trunks, but they are actually related to horses and rhinoceroses. This eclectic lineage is an ancient one—and so is the tapir itself. Scientists believe that these animals have changed little over tens of millions of years. Found in tropical forests of Malaysia and the New World. Heavy-bodied and rather short-legged, tapirs are 1.3 to 2.5 metres (about 4 to 8 feet) long and reach about 1 metre at the shoulder. The eyes are small, the ears are short and rounded, and the snout extends into a short fleshyproboscis, or trunk, that hangs down over the upper lip. The feet have three functional toes, the first (inner) toe being absent and the fifth toe being reduced in front and absent in the hind foot. Body hair is short and usually sparse.Harmony Kingdom description: "Earn Your Stripes”, Peter’s first ever Tapir box figurine, fits neatly into the category of odd and eccentric animals that he loves so much. With the body of a pig and a nose like a small elephant, these large mammals are born with wonderful white stripes and spots that gradually disappear over time. There are three types found in South America - Brazilian, Bairds and Mountain - and a fourth called the Malayan. Guess where he comes from? Peter thinks these creatures are cute, but if you Google “Oklahoma City Zoo 1998”, you’ll see they can be a tad aggressive. The interior portrays a young tapir showing off its strange feet. They have four toes on the front feet and three on the back. This odd animal has become one of Peter’s favourites, except for the one that doesn’t like zoo keepers."
