The ornament takes 3 AA Batteries not included (I do not like to include batteries for fear of shipping damage or corrosion) When installing batteries and pressing a small button on the front of the piano several things happen, The sheet music roller begins to spin, the piano keys begin to move and light up, the foot pedals move up and down all while playing several different popular Christmas songs.
