Description: Halifax Nova Scotia CanadaIndescribable Horror and Ruin Caused by Great Halifax Explosion Unposted circa 1917-18 This is a scarce vintage postcard of the massive explosion that happened in Halifax Nova Scotia in December 1917. When a ship the SS Mont-Blanc caught fire after a collision with another ship the cargo of high explosives detonated devastating a large portion of Halifax and killing nearly 1800 people. Another 9000 were hurt and over 6000 people were left homeless. The explosion was so powerful the Mont-Blanc's 90-mm gun landed 3 1/2 miles away and the shank of the ships anchor weighing over 1100 pounds was found two miles away.
