Description: Grace Story Putnam Baby doll; 1923 bisque head and hands, dress with slip, diaper and hat. back of head says 1923 by Grace S Putnam made in Germany. There is no damage to the body or construction/ clothing of the doll. The stitching of the frog body seems perfect, small dirt mark on leg, did not attempt to wash, no cracks to the hands or head. A rare find and a real treasure to have. Great for a collector or as a gift! I am not a doll expert and so as such am including this information below that a fellow eBay member sent to me FYI and truly no offense meant but this doll is a reproduction, most likely made in the U.S., not Germany. It has the neck markings of an original because it was cast from a mold that was in turn cast from an original doll. The facial painting is done in a modern style - there are big differences in the hair, brows, lashes, and lips. Also, the original bisque Bye-los had glass sleep eyes. The antique reproduction doll hobby was big in the U.S. for over 30 years. I worked for a company that sold molds, liquid porcelain, all the supplies and instruction sheets on how to make repro dolls. There are some repros that are so well done that it's hard to tell they're not antique, and those can bring high prices, but most amateur repros do not.
