Description: Roman Imperial sestertius of Gordian III, 238-244 AD, Sear 2493, R,I,C. 256a, 19 gms., 30-31 mm. The obverse shows Gordian III, draped, laureate, bust to the right. The obverse legend shows "IMP. CAES. M. ANT. GORDIANVS AVG." The reverse shows the legend "PAX AVGVSTI S.C.", with Pax standing facing, head left, with olive branch and scepter. Both sides are uniform medium to dark brown in color, except for the lower right quadrant on the reverse, which shows an area of darker brown, and some verdigris in the same area.
