Description: (Spinacia oleracea) Heirloom variety introduced in 1926 by Zwaan and Van der Molen of The Netherlands. Long standing 24-inch plants produce over an extended harvest window. Large, tapered leaves are slightly savoyed with a smooth texture and delicious flavor. Excellent for both fresh eating and wilting. 45 days to harvest. Approx. 250 seeds per packet. CULTURE: As soon as soil can be worked, sow seeds 1" apart, 1/2" deep in rows 18-24" apart. Under ideal conditions, germination will occur in 7-14 days. Thin to one plant every 8-12". A second sowing can be made in the fall, however it is best to wait until temps have cooled a bit as spinach will not germinate in hot soil.
