Description: This is a custom figure tribute to one of the most notorious gangsters in history, Baby Face Nelson. Lester Joseph Gillis was known by his alias George Nelson, but more well known by his nickname "Baby Face" Nelson. He was an American bank robber in the 1930's. He was given his nickname for his small stature and youthful appearance. Very few people called him that name to his face lest they incur his wrath. His criminal friends called him Jimmy. Nelson partnered with John Dillinger helping Dillinger break out of prison. The daring escape made the gang Public Enemy number 1. Nelson is credited with killing more FBI agents (there were three) in the line of duty than any other gangster. Nelson had a very colorful career and was involved in several shootouts. One of the most famous shootouts was at the Little Bohemia Lodge in Wisconsin. Nelson, Dillinger, and other members of the gang were to spend a weekend of R and R with their wives or girlfriends. Some of the gang were recognized and the FBI was notified. Melvin Purvis showed up to the Little Bohemia Lodge with several agents. Fearing the gang would get away the G-Men attacked quickly and without getting extra help from local law enforcement. Dillinger and a couple of gang members escaped out the back door of the main building and made their way to the woods. Nelson was in a cabin and attacked the agents head on making his way in the opposite direction. Due to the number of innocent dead or wounded victims at the shootout people were calling for the resignation of Purvis and FBI head J. Edgar Hoover. Baby Face Nelson soon became Public Enemy Number 1. Nelson would eventually be killed in a gun battle with FBI agents on November 27th 1934. The short but furious shootout took place outside of Chicago in a town called Barrington. Nelson and two FBI agents were killed in the Battle of Barrington. This figure would make a nice addition to any collection. This figure was done mainly for display. Please note- while this figure does not look exactly like Baby Face Nelson there is a bit of a resemblance.
