Description: I finished this today November 24, 2024 here in my native north central West Virginia home. Exceptional quality and I just love the folk art flower and thistle carving to embellish this look. It’s all walnut except the solid ebony violin pegs that are set in holes reamed with two separate violin peg reamers with one special made for the 5th peg. The reamers cut a tapered hole that match the taper and thickness of the pegs for maximum friction fit. I finished this with tried and true original finish. This measures 36” length, 10” wide, 2” side height and I got the bridge 24 1/2” from the nut in the photos. The top of the body is old slow growth walnut with close grain and a lot of character. It was quite a bit harder than your average walnut and had a much different smell like white pepper almost. No stains were used here just all natural walnut wood grain. I almost have one more walnut one done that has hundred dollar gotoh banjo tuners so it will be a lot more expensive but will be a few more days and that will be my last walnut banjo as I’m out of walnut. The super nylgut strings on this gives it a beautiful old timey sound and has a bright loud tone that I’m sure anyone will love. I been making these for over 20 years off and on and do my best to stay true to the old timey craftsmanship with my old hand tools and many musicians are repeat customers & I enjoy making these and keeping our folk traditions alive at a time they are almost faded out. You can do your part by playing and showing this. I will include a set of guidelines I typed up back in the summer that explains more about me, the banjos and things like my favorite tunings etc. feel free to ask any questions.
