Measures Approx. 68" x 73" The French Battalion of the United Nations Organization was a volunteer group of French Military Personeel that fought in the Korean War from 1950-1953. The battalion was made up of active and reserve personnel from all arms of the military, including infantry, cavalry, artillery, and sappers. The battalion was formed in Auvour, near Le Mans, in September and October 1950 and arrived in Busan on November 29, 1950. They were equipped with U.S. weapons and vehicles and attached to the 2nd U.S. Army Division, 23rd Infantry Regimental Combat Team. The battalion distinguished themselves in battles at Arrowhead Hill, Wonju, Twin Tunnels, Chipyong-Ni, and Heartbreak Ridge. The French Battalion is best known for their victory in the Battle of Chipyong-ni, which was the U.N. Command's first victory over enemy forces after the Chinese entered the war.
