One colour, signed in pencil beneath the image showing a huge vulture like bird hovering over a small boat in stormy seas. One of the illustrations Martin did for the novel The Thousand and One Nights published by the Folio Society. Titled in pencil along the bottom edge as shown and referencing the Frontis Vol II. Measurements: 18 x 10.5cm image size, sheet 27 x 21.5 cmCondition: Unframed, in excellent condition, some very light creasing to the right hand edge.Shipping flat.Illustrator, teacher and artist, Frank Martin studied at St Martin’s School of Art. In his early career he worked as an illustrator and wood engraver, working for newspapers and magazines. He was fascinated by Hollywood and silent movies and produced a large body of work using this as his inspiration. In 1953 he joined Camberwell School as a teacher of etching and engraving, going on to become a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design and Head of the Department of Graphic Arts 1976-80. A book on his art called Hollywood-Continental was published in 1988.
