Description: Up for sale is an Oil on Board by well-known artist, Harry Willson Watrous. It is signed and inscribed "To my friend Jan Van Chelminski - H.W. Watrous - May 15, 1886". Jan Van Chelminski (1851-1925) was a fellow well-listed artist. Harry Willson Watrous (1857–1940) was an American artist. He joined the National Academy of Design in 1895, and was its secretary from 1898 to 1920 and its president in 1933–1934. Around 1905 the artist's eyesight began to fail, and he changed his main subject from tiny genre scenes to idealized female figures. His wife was artist and novelist Elizabeth S. Nichols. It is professionally framed in a gold wooden frame. The frame measures approximately 10 1/2" x 13". The actual painting is approximately 8 3/4" x 11". The frame has some nicks and chips. It could definitely use cleaning. Overall, the painting is in Fair+ Condition. It definitely needs cleaning, as there are many marks on it. A superb example of this great artists work and an excellent investment - a perfect piece for any collector! Other small dings here and there.
