Description: Ds-57 Here is a delightful specimen piece with all the colors and textures one could want! It’s got an interesting shape which reminds me of a hawk profile. Natural bone, not treated. Shown both wet & dry. Weight:117.16 Grams. Front: The top curved “neck and head” section has fine rust-colors with a hint of dark at the “throat.” This part is thin - 1/8 inch along the neck curve and 1/4 inch thick towards the top of the head and beak. I think these are marrow cells. It is 1 1/2 inches wide. Then the piece widens out and becomes thicker for the shoulder/wing section. It tapers in width from 1 1/2 inches going DOWN to the “wingtip” of 1/2 inch wide. The colors are off-white, light tan, a hint of rust, and some blue RIND. Total Height-Three inches Tall. Left Side: Very cool blend of colors that continue the hawk theme! Toward the narrow top/underside of the “beak” it is a blue-grey with a touch of off-white then turns to mottled rust ( like a yearling would have!) 1/4 inch wide at top/beak going to One inch through breast area to 1 1/4 at the base. Right Side: Thin 1/8 curved section making up the “head/top” then widens to one inch of colorful blue-grey rind with some tan and sprinkles of rust. Back: Dry it shows pretty rust color with raised agate and some light tan with blue. Wet the color is a bright red-orange, with the blue looking more grey.2 1/2 inches Tall X 1 1/2 wide (bottom) and then 1 3/4 wide for remainder of the piece. Dinosaurs first appeared at the end of the Middle Triassic or in early Late Triassic time, approximately 230 million years ago. The primitive dinosaurs of the Triassic were neither as abundant nor as varied as they would become in Jurassic and Cretaceous times. The fluvial (stream-deposited) sediments of the Morrison Formation dominated the Upper Jurassic landscape of eastern Utah. Originating approximately 150 million years ago as floodplain deposits, the Morrison Formation is exposed throughout the Colorado Plateau, including Colorado, Wyoming, eastern Utah, northern New Mexico, parts of Montana and South Dakota, and the panhandle of Oklahoma.
