Description: Welcome to Pioneer Fossils! A photo Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this specimen. Here is a genuine fossil rib from a Maiasaura, a "duck-billed" dinosaur that lived in the Cretaceous, the last of the Age of Dinosaurs. Between 74 and 66 million years ago. From Two Medicine Formation in Montana. Maiasaura has been called the "Good Mother" dinosaur because a nest of Maiasaura eggs was found, with the mom in a protective position nearby. Nice mom. This is a rib piece, about 3.88 inches, using the calipers, and weighing 7.15 oz. When a dinosaur bone is discovered in the ground, it usually has multiple cracks and/or separations in it, a result of millions of years of pressure, temperature, etc. The excavator puts paleo glue on the piece to keep it together, so it does not fall all over upon removal from the ground. This is not considered damage with dinosaur bones. In fact, it is standard procedure. That appears to be the case here, as there are 2 pieces joined together. We mention this, to be sure we are always honest and transparent about out fossils and their conditions. The Hadrosaurs are also known as duck-billed dinosaurs, because of the shape of their heads. They were herbivores. Many years ago, they were referred to as Trachodon, but that name is no longer widely used. We invite you to visit our store. Our items are of vastly different sizes and weights, but we never use shipping as a profit center. We would rather refund the shipping overpayment back to you, and have a happy buyer. We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity). Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. In addition, the person selling the item is often the one who writes the COA (potential conflict of interest). Finally, a COA, without a photo of the exact specimen on the COA itself, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral. 100% of our COA’s include a photo of the exact item you purchased, right on the COA itself, so it can’t ever be placed with a wrong item. We suggest that in addition to relying on a COA, that people read and study the subject.******************************************************************************************************************************************IMPORTANT: If you are not satisfied with your order, please contact us, and let us make it right, before giving any feedback.
