Description: FORT DEFIANCE AT CANONCITO BONITO, NEW MEXICO BUILT 1851-52 Original engraving by Robert Hinshelwood from a work by Seth Eastman (1808-1875). Eastman based his work on a field sketch by Lieut. Col. Joseph Horace Eaton (1815-1896). The plate was published in Philadelphia in 1854. Fortunately, this beautiful engraving hasn't been compromised with later coloring and remains in its original as-issued condition. Image area measures 5 3/8 x 8 7/8. Very good condition.
