Description: This is a 4" tall (4-1/2" if measured at the top of the handle), 2-1/4" across silverplated trophy cup from the 1906 Wilkes-Barre (PA) Centennial celebration. This was given to the first-place team in the 1-Mile Relay Race event for Preparatory Schools. It has various signs of wear, including wear of the silver plating usually seen on these types of pieces. It was made by the FORBES SILVER CO. (marked on the bottom), which made silverplated Britannia-style wares and was eventually bought out and merged into The International Silver Co. Note that the top is not perfectly round if it ever was, and both handles seem to have been pushed in a little from this little cup's journey through time. The Prep School athletes who won this would be over 130 years old today. That gives us an idea of how long ago this race really was! A wonderful little artifact of Americana from Wilkes-Barre PA.
