Description: Maker: This beautiful antique figurine has the blue mark of the Carl Thieme company, which produced exquisite porcelain works beginning with the founding of the Saxon Porcelain Manufactory in Potschappel, Germany, in 1872. The company is widely recognized as one of the great Dresden manufacturers. The company went into receivership in 1972 and re-emerged as the Saxonia Porcelain Manufactory Dresden. Marks and age: The blue back stamp on this figurine – with the letter T over an X - is the earliest known Thieme mark. It was in use from 1891 to 1901. Source: Dresden Porcelain Studios by Jim and Susan Harran. The number 714 is impressed on the base. Design: The finely hand painted figure in a straw hat and holding a lute represents a Malabar musician. It’s based on a 1750 design by the Meissen factory artist Friedrich Elias Meyer. It's one of a pair that included a male figure. Size: The figurine is 7 inches tall, 2 7/8 inches wide at the base and weighs 1 pound. Condition: There are no nicks, chips, stains, discoloration or repairs. The end of the lute is missing. There is a small crack under the back of the jacket in the yellow section and two faint hairline cracks or large crazes in the jacket. The figurine has light wear throughout. These flaws are shown in the photos with the red arrows but there may be more so please check all the photos very carefully - they are an essential part of the description.
