Description: This is a wonderful and noble Fine Antique Old 19th c. American Folk Art St. Bernard Dog Portrait Oil Painting on Artist Board, depicting the reposed and relaxed portrait of a Saint Bernard hound dog, laying in an enchanting open grass field, with forestry and woodland brush in the distance. This is a well-loved and well-fed pup, who wears a collar and name tag, and looks quite comfortable and relaxed in the idyllic and Impressionistic plein air forested setting. Approximately 17 1/8 x 23 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 12 1/4 x 18 1/4 inches. Good condition for age, with some moderate speckles of paint loss to the painted surface, and mild edge wear and gilded loss to the original period gilded wood frame. This piece likely dates to the 1880's - 1910's. Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
