Most handles have a brass lanyard tube sized to fit 550 paracord if you want to easily change the lanyards. The wood for these handles comes from dead/dried lower branches harvested from large living trees found on my property. Because this wood was dried naturally on the tree, you will find surface cracks, worm holes, etc. This is the natural process that forms the beautiful red sapwood grain and centers in cedar. Unfortunately, you don't get the beauty without the imperfections. These "defects" in no way detract from the structural integrity of the handles but add a rustic appearance and character to these beautiful handles. High Quality Ferro Rods With High-Speed Steel (HSS) Strikers. The rods are 3/8" in diameter, with a total length of 6.5". The strikers are made from 2mm x 14mm high speed steel, with a total length of 5". The strikers have 6 sharp edges and will scrape shavings from a tender source, such as fatwood, or from the rod itself to quickly ignite a fire. Rod and Striker are fitted with a 3mm leather lanyard. This combination of Ferro Rod and HSS Striker easily throws SHOWERS of 5500*F sparks to quickly ignite a tender source, no matter the weather or elevation. Works in the wet, when other sources fail.
