Description: One of the more rare Fender Squire JVs you will EVER see! This gorgeous ST62-65 model is a true piece of history. Made in the first year of Fender Japan production at the renowned FujiGen factory, this rare, early model was only offered as a UK export as part of the "Japanese Vintage" (JV) line which only lasted from 1982-84. These extremely well-crafted instruments paralleled Fender's USA reissue production at the Fullerton factory, and this Strat is accurate to vintage spec with a resonant alder body, thick slab Indian rosewood fretboard on the maple neck. Noteworthy is the accuracy of the three tone sunburst, a feature that helped convince Dan Smith, then CEO of Fender, that these Japanese guitars were worthy of the Fender name. This guitar is 100 % original and in amazing shape. The maple neck is dead straight and presents with the original nickel frets installed into the Indian rosewood fretboard showing only very light play wear with a superb low action. The vibrato features Fender-stamped saddles and a full-size trem block for optimal sustain This guitar has been stored away for many years, unplayed and is in exceptional condition save for some very light polishing swirls to the lacquer and very light worming to the lacquer on the rear face, which has not broken the paintwork. There is only one barely noticeable mark on the front of the body that is located down and to the left of the bridge, as pictured. There are two VERY unique things about this particular beauty: 1) The guitar comes with an equally 'Ultra Rare' Squier script moulded hard shell case. 2) The production date falls into a very narrow window that makes this have a very rare configuration Anyone that has ever played and sourced Fender JVs knows that this case is practically unheard of. Virtually any listing you'll ever see does not include this case! With this being the first production run with the Squier spaghetti logo, this was likely a "dealer export" model that was sent to the UK. The case is in immaculate condition, and is a highly valuable piece by itself! The 1st production run of the Fender JV Squire was commenced on 13th October 1982. This guitar is dated to the 16th October 1982, which makes this a very desirable and rare week 1 production release. What makes this guitar particularly rare is that this date falls into a very narrow timeframe from when the pickups being used are quite interesting. From 21frets.com: "July 1982 to very roughly early 1983 with staggered pole pieces, a black fiber bobbin, black fiber top, bright copper colored windings and plain wires...... (Please note that the bobbin, windings and markings of these 'supposed' U.S. pickups are VERY similar in appearance to that of some Japanese domestic SQ pickups, and it is a least possible that for some reason a few export guitars of this period were actually fitted with SQ pickups, but it is equally possible that these are genuine USA items that were accurately copied......yet another mystery)." American Fullerton pickups? Japanese SQ-5 pickups? Some other USA pickup that was used for a very short timeframe? They lack the white markings that are typically found on the bottom of American pickups used on JVs of that area, but other wise have all of the characteristics of early production JV American pickups - plastic covered wires and pickup screws with rubber tensioner grommets / tubing. Whatever they are, they sound amazing, just like an original '62 Strat! Please review all photos as they form part of the description. Please feel free to reach out to request and additional photos or information. This fine highly quality instrument has been lovingly cherished , lightly played and offers very unique features with historical importance that make this an extremely rare example, significantly appreciating in value over the past few years as few super clean examples coming onto the market, making them highly desirable to Collector, Investor and discerning Stage player. Not only a stellar sounding guitar but a very sound investment piece!
