Description: Truetone PJ Run At Truetone Music, we love Fender Custom Shop Basses. We know that bass players recognize that this is where some of the world's greatest basses are made. We also know that they can do more (much more) than recreate the iconic models from the '50's and '60's. There's an opportunity to create something new, something different. Often, the desire is to get vintage-styled instruments with modern tweaks and aspects that players love. There's where we went with this bass: it's modeled after a 1964 Jazz, but with a PJ pickup configuration and a High Mass bridge. This gives you something truly unique. It's the first part of a run of PJ basses we cooked up with the Custom Shop. For this '64 Jazz Bass, we went with one of the most coolest looks we could think of - Charcoal Frost Metallic with a Tortoiseshell pickguard. For the finish package, we went with Closet Classic, with heavy checking to give it a bit more character. As the name suggests, this creates the appearance of an instrument that was made 50 - 60 years, but was then put away in its case. You'll see finish checking, some of the glossiness muted, and hardware without the shine. Where this Jazz bass stands out is the addition of a a Custom Shop 59 - 62 P Bass pickup. It provides classic P Bass tone, known as "the sound heard around the world". It's versatile, and can be used in a variety of settings, from old school R&B to punk and everything in between. A Custom Shop Vintage Jazz bass pickup in the bridge position brings the classic Jazz bass sound. While Fender has done this on a variety of basses over the years, you rarely, if ever, see it in a traditional setup (typically they have been ultra modern basses with active electronics). We wanted to go old school, so we kept everything passive. The goal was to create a bass that could have been but never was in 1964. To further the vintage vibe, we had the finish removed from the back of the neck. This gives you a truly broken in feel, making this bass an absolute pleasure to play. The rock solid quartersawn maple neck is topped off with a nice dark rosewood board and clay dots. We added two modern tweaks to make it a little more playable - a 9.5" radius and Medium Jumbo (6150) frets. This gives the bass a bit more of a modern feel, while still retaining the classic nature of the bass. Another modernized feature we included is the High Mass bridge. This was developed by Fender some years ago, due to inability to get consistent supply of one of the most popular bass bridges (the Leo Quan Badass). This is a favorite of ours and we try to put it on every Custom Shop bass that we do that doesn't need to be "period correct". As the name implies, it has a higher mass content than a vintage style bridge, which helps to improve tone. It adds sustain, resonance and attack without significantly altering your tone. The brass baseplate and machined saddles impart warm, authentic vintage-style tone with .75" string spacing for a familiar playing feel. The bass comes without the bridge and pickup covers installed, nor a thumbrest. It includes a vintage style Deluxe hardshell case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity. It's been setup to play perfect by the techs in our shop. This is an amazing looking, sounding and feeling Custom Shop '64 Jazz, with features that aren't on anything else out there. Come to Truetone Music to check it out, or order it right here right now to get it sent straight to your home.
