Description: Red Farmall Tractors at the Canterbury Shaker Barn in NH Red Farmall Tractors art print is from an original watercolor painting by the Artist, William B. MacGregor Jr., who is known in the New England area as the Junkyard Artist. Farmall is a brand name for tractors manufactured by International Harvestor (IH), Farmall was a prominent brand in the 20th-century and originated as row-crop tractors. During the decades of Farmall production (1920s to 1980s), most Farmalls were built for row-crop work, but many orchard, fairway, and other variants were also built. Most Farmalls were all-purpose tractors that were affordable for small to medium-sized farms. Farmall tractors were painted a deep blue-grey until mid-1936. The wheels were most often red. Then a decision was made to change the entire tractor (frame, sheet metal, engine, and wheels) to a new color, 'Farmall Red'. That way a farmer could look out across the fields and see his neighbor's tractor from a great distance and know what make it was. By 1973, IH officially dropped the 'Farmall' name from its new tractor models, ending an era that began with the first Farmall in 1924. The Farmall Cub was produced from 1947 tol 1979) with minor updates in engineering and styling. ------------------------------------------ Nostalgic scene old “Red” Farmalls at the Canterbury Shaker Village barn. . MacGregor, Jr. was born in Medfield, MA, the son and grandson of Norfolk Hunt Club kennel masters. Many of his family members were self-taught artists, woodcarvers, automobile mechanics and veterans of foreign wars including his father a WW1 US Army veteran. Bill is a graduate of Medfield High School, Wentworth Institute, and Northeastern University. His engineering career, from which he is now retired, included working for military and aerospace companies in industrial engineering and IR optics. His painting incorporates “old skool” mechanical and civil drafting tools and he uses a mixed medium of watercolors, acrylics and inks. Two rabbits are often in quite a few of his paintings. Look for them. He is frequently commissioned by United States Naval officers to create paintings of their ships and aircraft carriers on nautical charts. In May,2018, and for one year, four of Bill’s automotive related paintings were on display at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA.
