FAP Laser Diode Heat Sink with TEC Thermoelectric Peltier Cooler

Description: FAP Laser Diode Heat Sink with TEC Thermoelectric Peltier Cooler Large heat sink assembly made for use with Coherent FAP type laser diode modules. The finned aluminum heat sink is about 8 x 7 inches and 3 inches tall. The complete assembly weighs a bit over 9lb. On top there is a large copper heat spreader with #6-32 mounting holes to fit a Coherent FAP diode module. The heat spreader is cooled by 2 large 62mm TECs rated for 12V nominal (so 24V in series) at 10A. The TECs are sealed with silicone to prevent damage from condensation. The heat spreader is electrically isolated from the base heat sink. This is good since the base of the FAP module is the positive connection which cannot be shorted to ground. There is an LM35 temperature sensor mounted to the heat spreader that can be used with a temperature controller to keep the diode temperature at a specific setpoint. It would be easy to swap that for a thermistor of your choice. These provide enough cooling for use with FAP modules up to 50W. Note that TECs aren't magic, nor particularly efficient so there will be considerably more heat on the hot side (heatsink) than is being moved by the TEC array. You will need to add a reasonably powerful fan blowing through the heat sink fins to dissipate all of this heat. The FAP module shown is for demonstration purposes only and is not included.
