Description: Up for sale is a fantastic, large oil / collage on paper by Luis Solari (1918-1993). Solari is a well known Uruguayan artist who created a 'magical realist' style focused on myths and folklore. He has an extensive auction record and pieces in collections and museums around the world. The piece is a collage of clipped paper painted in oil and then framed. Solari is well known for his collages and this is a particularly large one. It measures approximately 20 x 26. Including the frame it measures approximately 26 x 33. Painting is in overall good condition with a couple of issues. First, there is a chip or missing piece of paper (very small) upper center. It is hard for me to tell if this is a deliberate piece left out by Solari or a chip on paper. If this was oil on canvas I would say it definitely a chip but it is small and fairly symmetric so it is tough to figure out how such a small piece of paper would rip out from a larger one. There is also a bit of peeling away from the backing at top and lower center middle. If desired this would be a small fix by a conservator. Frame has some chipping, wear and scratching. It is original to the piece. Signed lower right and signed and titled on back with a gallery sticker. See photos. Please email with questions and see my store for other great items.
