Description: Attractive and very good copy of the second series of Familiar Wild Birds W. Swaysland with 40 colour plates from the early twentieth century. These are watercolour illustrations by Thorburn, a renowned Edwardian naturalist and painter, as well as others. These are all present, bright and clear. There are also many in text line illustrations and chapter headings. This has a decorated cover and spine which is bright and clear. The blue of the cloth boards is bright and strong. There is a damp mark on the front which is repeated on the back. There is minimal rubbing to the spine front board joint which can be seen in the pictures. The spine ends are crushed and the corners are a little rubbed and bumped at the extremities. Internally, the book is clean and bright. A light age tone to the text block and the odd foxing spot to the prelims. All the plates are bright and clean. There are no marks or inscriptions. Some cracking but all of the pages are present and secure. No lean and tight binding. Please zoom in to check. All in all a lovely example of this vintage Victorian bird book which would make a great addition to any natural history collection or a decorative addition to a vintage home scheme. Please check my other listings for more vintage children's and nature books as well as Folio Society. All of my books are vintage and antiquarian so will show signs of age and sometimes use. Please check the photos carefully and contact me before buying if you have any queries.
