(Label notes) "This record is made to be played loudly". ℗ 1971 Manufactured by RCA Limited, England from master recordings of RCA Records. (Sleeve notes.) The purpose of this note is to give credit to the people who in my mind make our group a group in the full sense of the term. The rhythm section is only one part, the essential part is unfortunately rarely heard of---; our advisors, record company, our engineer, musical arrangers, brass players, Olympic Sound Studios and road manager. All those people coming together to make a complete unit--- FAIRWEATHER As much as we regard the L.P. as ours, it belongs as much to the people mentioned above, who have made and make it all possible. To us the names below represent much more than ink scratched on paper. A million thanks to--- Chris Williams and Keith Altham ---for giving us peace of mind and contentment. Alan O'Duffy---for being such a good friend and taking so much interest and care so as to compliment are playing. Derek Wadsworth and Roger Wade---for doing so much to so little. RCA---for fear of missing anyone's name, we have named the company as a whole, but deepest thanks to all concerned with special projects and promotion. Bud Parks and Terry Noonan---for a too much solo and for taking the interest and time. Believe me it was really appreciated. Alan Berry (Big Al)---for being so efficient ,reliable and such a good friend. Chris,Dave, Anton and Jeremy (Olympic Sound)---for helping the sessions take on a nice atmosphere. Jock---for the tea and for being Jock. Jennifer Kuik---for typing this note. B. J. Cole---for the most beautiful expressed steel playing. Kingsley Ward---for the use of your studio and farm, for "I Hear You Knocking" Which was the biggest buzz we've had for a long time. Dave Edmunds and Rockfield---for the use of your head and your heart and engineering the good sound on "I Hear You Knocking" . OLYMPIC SOUND STUDIOS WE THANK YOU Album designed by Keef. Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album? First and early pressings are pressed from the first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues/re-issues (which, in recent times, are often pressed from whatever 'best' tapes or digital sources are currently available) - many so-called 'audiophile' new 180g pressings are cut from hi-res digital sources…essentially an expensive CD pressed on vinyl. Why experience the worse elements of both formats? These are just High Maintenance CDs, with mid-ranges so cloaked with a veil as to sound smeared. They are nearly always compressed with murky transients and a general lifelessness in the overall sound. There are exceptions where re-masters/re-presses outshine the original issues, but they are exceptions and not the norm. First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider. Subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive. Inner details are clearer, the music tends to sound more ‘alive’ and vibrant and you 'hear' what the mixing and mastering engineers wanted you to hear when they first recorded the music. 1.
