Description: Name: Cryptolithus bellulusAge: Upper OrdovicianFormation: Martinsburg FormationLocation: Swatara Gap, Lebanon Co., PennsylvaniaSize: Trilobite is 1 inch long including spines! This is a very cool Trinucleid fossil. It is a colorful Cryptolithus bellulus trilobite from the classic site at Swatara Gap, Pennsylvania. This distinct specimen was collected by Steve Hess in 1989. This type of trilobite is known for the unusual pitted fringe that encircles the entire front of the trilobite. This specimen has this feature wonderfully displayed, along with BOTH LONG genal spines, which is quite unusual. The left side of the body is missing, but the rest of the trilobite has very nice detail preserved. And the bug's natural rust-orange coloration is quite striking. This is a very displayable example of a classic Cryptolithus trilobite with genal spines from this long-closed site. A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this item.
