Eucalyptus kitsoniana - "Gippsland Mallee" - "Bog Gum" - Fresh Seeds

Description: Eucalyptus kitsoniana Gippsland Mallee - Bog Gum Known as either the "Gippsland Mallee" or "Bog Gum", this lovely small tree is native to Victoria, Australia. Offering smooth bark that may be light yellow-green, pale coppery brown, or pink brown, and may have slabs of rough stringy bark at the base, with ribbons of peeling bark in the upper branches. Growing to 30 feet tall (generally less), this smaller growing variety also has a lignotuber, which will allow for new growth after a fire or severe pruning. The attractive, conspicuously glossy, round to oval leaves are bright green with red stems, and an adult tree may have juvenile, intermediate and adult foliage in the crown. The flowers are white, in small, seven-flowered, axillary clusters, usually appearing in summer, but also blooming at other times of year, and may attract honey bees and hummingbirds. Rarely seen in cultivation, this lovely species makes excellent cut foliage, and may also be pruned to keep it at a manageable size. (I wish I was able to offer a picture of the flowers and the trunk, but, unfortunately, my tree had to be hastily taken down because of where it was planted. It's such a pretty little tree, that I am starting more seeds, so they can be planted as a grouping in a better location...) One packet contains 1/8 teaspoon of seeds with chaff, as well as detailed sowing instructions. The seeds of this species are rather fine, and (with my old eyes) I no longer want to have to clean the seeds (remove all the seeds from among the chaff - which is very time consuming). There will be many seeds this way, and in 1/8 teaspoon, there should, at the least, be a couple dozen seeds among the chaff. You'll actually get more seeds this way than if I had to clean them! The chaff is inert, and is absolutely fine added to the soil at planting time. With proper storage, Eucalyptus seeds may remain viable for a long time - I've had them sprout after 15 years of storage! Please note: Harvested from my own garden, these seeds are fresh and viable and are ready for sowing. Success in their germination is up to you, and will be achieved by carefully following the instructions included with your seeds. Sowing seeds requires cleanliness, practice and patience, and frequently have specific requirements and pretreatments. There is a learning curve. I say this because people generally blame the seeds or the seller for a failure in germination, when, in actuality, it is usually because of the one doing the sowing... With that said, I wish you the best of luck with the seeds, and if you have any questions with getting them started, please feel free to contact me. I've been growing and collecting rare and exotic plants for over 45 years and sowing seeds has been a specialty. Most of the trees and shrubs that are growing in my garden have been started from seeds; there is something very satisfying about that. All photos are of plants in my own collection - unless stated otherwise. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING - SORRY - I ONLY SHIP TO THE US. I do combine shipping for multiple items - please request a new shipping total before checking out. Thank you! Upon arrival of the seeds/cutting/plant, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I want you to be happy with your purchase and to have the greatest success in its cultivation! Thank you for checking out my ebay offerings. Robert
