He was Elagabalus' heir and came to the throne at the young age of 14. He reigned over the Roman empire from AD 222- 235. Being so young, he was greatly influenced by his mother, Julia Mamaea and his grandmother Julia Maesa. He knew nothing of the ways of war, but the army gradually came to accept him as a man of virtue and moderate behaviour, so different from his predecessor. He did much to improve the morals and conditions of the people, encouraging science, art and literature. Fiscally, he increased the fineness of the denarius to a silver content of 50.5% rather than the 43% it went down to. After three marriages during his 13 years, he was assassinated by the insubordinate troops he was reprimanding. Condition Summary. I am unquestionably a people person in so far as I like to know the person at the end of the telephone, or those with whom I communicate electronically. For the avoidance of doubt and to eliminate risk when buying I always like to know the seller. Please do not think me egotistical, however, it is important that people know exactly who I am. I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971. My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department. The same year I was invited by the BBC to take part in the Antiques Roadshow and 38 years later I am still enjoying being a part of the team. Code 21030107
