This lovely print measures 12 5/8" X 18". Ready to mat and frame. My father grew up in Hoquiam, a small town on the coast of Washington. He was born in 1910, died, along with my mother, in a plane crash on Pago Pago, American Samoa on Jan. 31st, 1974 I miss my parents every single day. My father was born into a working class family in an isolated part of the United States. He began creating artwork as a youngster, but was not living in a community which had any understanding or desire to nurture any artistic talents. Eventually Elton Bennett was able to attend the Portland Art Museum School of Art in 1946, thanks to the GI Bill. He returned to Hoquiam after art school, because the Pacific Northwest was the source of his inspiration. It was a hard life. Eventually, he managed to carve a successful life for himself as an artist. But that only came after many years of working several different jobs in a 24 hour time frame and having a beloved wife who was willing to sacrifice many basic 'luxuries' , such as a reliable daily supply of food, so that my father could achieve his goals. Elton Bennett chose to keep the prices of his originals at an affordable price. He did so because of his principles that artwork should not belong only to the wealthy and privileged. It was only in the last 6 years of his life that he could actually live comfortably. By offering a reproduction of his work, I am honoring the belief which my father held- every home should include beauty!
