Description: Ella Fitzgerald Test Press Night in Tunisia / You're My Thrill Single Side 78 RPM Rare & Collectable Michael Hobson Pressing For Sale is a 12" 78rpm* single sided (for optimal sound performance) Test Pressing of Side A1 of the Classic Records 180 gram reissue of Ella Fitzgerald's "Night In Tunisia" and "You're My Thrill" from the Verve album 'Clap Hands, Here Comes Charlie!'. Test pressings are highly collectible and are from the first stamper. Approximately less than 20 exist. Test pressings reflect the closest you can get to the lacquers and hence have a special collectible value and store of value. In the early days of Classic Records (1994 - 95), Michael Hobson started to experiment with 45 rpm cuts of some of the great Classic RCA Living Stereo titles. Hobson recalls that one day while test cutting a 45rpm disc off of the audiophile Verve classic "Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie" by Ella Fitzgerald, there was still some sibilance (slurred "s"sound) during playback which Bernie Grundman commented would go away at 78 rpm because the stylus could "even better" track the complex groove modulation than at 45rpm. A test cut was made with superb playback results and on occasion thereafter, Hobson would decide to cut a few tunes that were particularly difficult to track because of complexity of the material or the power of the recording. These discs are the rarest of the rare and were never released outside of a few pressings that went to Harry Pearson who freaked out when he heard a 78 rpm test pressing commenting "Hobson, you are amazing From the start of Classic Records in 1994, Michael Hobson, insisted on having as complete a "personal archive" as possible, of all varieties and issues of Classic Records' various releases (180g, 200g, Blue Vinyl, etc) as a reference of what had been done. It is reported that Hobson personally selected the copies of the records that went into his archive by listening to 1st stamper pressings to determine when the “stamper” was in the “sweet spot” and pressing the best sounding records during the run. Further, these records have not been moved from Hobson’s own climate controlled air-conditioned storage for all these years.
