Description: The gorgeous serving dish or covered vegetable bowl is in the "Sommer" series. The porcelain is finished with exquisite handles garnished in gold. The pattern is of floral plants with colorful butterflies. This rare piece comes with its intact lid, also painted beautifully. In research of similar items, I have found none other that has such elegantly fashioned, sophisticated handles on the tureen and lid. It is an ample piece, measuring 8.5 inches in diameter and 2.75 inches high. H&C Heinrich Selb Bavaria was founded in 1896 by Franz Heinrich, a Bavarian porcelain painter. Heinrich started the company by building an oven in his parents' house in Selb, Bayern, and buying whiteware from local porcelain factories to paint and burn. In 1901, he began producing his own porcelain, and the company eventually counted as one of the main German porcelain manufacturers. The company expanded and flourished through the 20th century, until it was purchased by Villeroy and Boch in the mid 1970s. If interested in more pieces from this line please inquire directly or see my other listings, as I have a number of other items in this series. Available in this same pattern are: platters [large and medium sized], dinner plates, bowls, lidded sugar pot and saucier with attached saucer. If interested in more than one I can send special offer/ bundle the postage, just get in touch!
