Description: A rare early vintage handmade Santa. Styled similarly to a German Belsnickel, but formed with a cotton wrapped wire body and painted cloth face. The figure holds a walking stick and carries a bag (painted paper) on its back holding feather and cloth foliage. Acquired from the estate of Maggie Rogers, co author of ‘The Santa Claus Picture Book: An Appraisal Guide.’ Condition: see photos; the walking stick is loose from the base, there’s some loss of cotton wool at the cuffs and hem.
